“I’m really bad at promises, so I think I should say no.”

“Are you serious? We’ve been dating for 10 years.”

“I know and I love you, but I don’t want to…get married. We can still be together forever but without all of the extra…everything.”

“What’s wrong with the everything?”

“Nothing, I guess. I don’t know. It’s not for me. You’re for me and that’s enough. I don’t need a label, fancy dress and cocktails and lame first dances.”

“What about kids?”

“We already have them. Without marriage. We’re fine.”

And I could tell that he wanted to keep arguing, but instead, he walked out. It’s been 17 days and I don’t think he’s ever coming back. It’s too bad because if he asked again, I probably would have said yes. But sometimes, you only get one chance at something really great.
